Winklevoss twins and Mark Zuckerberg

"Frankly, I’m kind of appalled that they’re threatening me after the work I’ve done for them free of charge, but after dealing with a bunch of other groups with deep pockets and good legal connections including companies like Microsoft, I can’t say I’m surprised. I try to shrug it off as a minor annoyance that whenever I do something successful, every capitalist out there wants a piece of the action.”

After watching The Social Network, everyone learned of the Winklevoss twins. The prominent duo went to Harvard along with Mark Zuckerberg and brought the business venture some said was like an exclusive dating site for Harvard students. The twins had asked Zuckerberg to join their team and do pretty much all of the programming. Instead, Zuckerberg had an idea of his own! Starting off by sending a mass e-mail to all the school’s students called “Face Mash” were people could vote who was hotter out of two photos. All of the students on this site were attending the school currently.
This sort of “spam” if you will was to prove that people were interested in the opposite sex- but that was already done, his website had to be something more than like MySpace or Xanga. The key, Zuckerberg thought, was to be an exclusive site for dating and all types of relationships. The exclusivity factor, some said, was stolen from the twins’ original proposal because they were not only left to think Zuckerberg was still programming their website which they put their own money and time into but also were not told of or invited into this new networking idea. So now all it needed was to be created. When being programmed once again Zuckerberg used the twins’ idea to be focused on dating for college students. Having a profile with your relationship status, who you were interested in, and also your personal interests, etc was the key to making this happen!

After the twins’ and their other partner found out about this website they took it straight to their daddy’s lawyers. The original lawsuit ended with the twin’s receiving sixty-five million dollars in 2008 (Paczkowski par., 1). However, recently it has been stated that they are suing Mark Zuckerberg once again. They believe that now that Zuckerberg’s website has made more that once again they deserve more money. I do believe that even though in today's society what Zuckerberg did would be classified as "shady," legally I do not think he did anything wrong. The twins and their friend asked Zuckerberg to help but not clause was signed for him to only work on their site, or that their idea was owned by them and only them. For heaven's sake they just piggy-backed off of what E-Harmony was doing and made it more exclusive (this was mentioned in the movie!)
